For Husker fans April 18th 1996 was a sad day. Former Nebraska quarterback Brook Berringer and friend Toby Lake were killed when Berringer lost control of Harry Barr's piper cub. Berringer was expected to be drafted in the NFL Draft that weekend. He had a pilot's license and often flew that airplane. Brook often said that he wanted to be a commercial pilot. The University of Nebraska had scheduled a national championship celebration, but it was cancelled because the fans and players were sad and didn't feel like celebrating. Berringer was a wonderful rolemodel. He spoke to many youth and groups about life. Brook said that he would give his NFL signing bonus to his family to help them in school. Brook Berringer is survived by his mother Jan, and grandparents Lois and Bill Berringer.
